Maqui (Aristotelia Chilensis): A small evergreen tree native to the temperate rainforests of Southern Chile.

Maqui Films is a production studio featuring the work of Chicago-based Chilean filmmaker Fernando Saldivia Yáñez. Developing a practice that explores the poetry of daily life, Fernando has released two feature-length documentary films and a number of short films screened in multiple venues nationally and internationally. More recently, Fernando has partnered with animation producer Ignacio Cavieres Maragaño to expand Maqui Films’ practice to new mediums. The animated music video Chungunga Surf (2026), directed by Sebastián Platz, is the first result of these partnerships.
